Detective Michael Crivello of the Milwaukee PD, a Chief Master Sergeant in the Air National Guard, has been named to receive the first ever award to military veterans serving as law enforcement officers.
Detective Michael Crivello of the Milwaukee Police Department has been named to receive the first ever award for military veterans serving as law enforcement officers. In addition to his commitment to the safety of Milwaukee’s citizens, Detective Crivello is a Chief Master Sergeant in the Air National Guard.
Shortly after graduating from the Milwaukee Trade & Technical High School, Crivello joined the Air National Guard taking basic training at Lackland AFB, TX graduating from the Security Police Academy in May 1986.
Not long after assuming his duties, Detective Crivello was selected as the Security Policeman of the Quarter and later as Security Policeman of the Year. In addition to his earlier commendations, he proved to be an effective team player. In 1992 and 1993, the Fire Team that Detective Crivello led won the Security Forces Team of the Year. Within two years of those honors, he was once again awarded the Air National Guard Outstanding Security Policeman of the Year.
Seeking further training after graduating from the Non-Commissioned Officer Leadership School at McGhee Tyson ANGB in Tennessee, he entered Law Enforcement Supervisor School. On graduating from the Non-Commissioned Officer Academy, he completed the highest level of enlisted PME in the Chief’s Leadership Course.
In addition to his PME accomplishments, Detective Crivello completed Scout Sniper School at Camp Robinson, AR. After an intense application process, which included a demanding physical exam and an oral interview, Detective Crivello was selected as the first Wisconsin Phoenix Raven. He completed this challenging training in March of 1998.
All the while, Crivello was doing double duty as a member of the Milwaukee Police Department where he was promoted to Detective in 2006. There he was detached to a federal High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) anti-drug task force, the Vice Control Division, the Sensitive Crimes Division, and the Criminal Investigations Bureau.
Detective Crivello was promoted to Chief Master Sergeant in March of 2003 while assigned to the 128th Security Forces Squadron where he served as the Security Forces Manager. Crivello was later selected as the State Command Chief in July of 2005 and currently serves as Special Projects NCO for Headquarters Air National Guard.
As a member of the International Union of Police Associations, AFL-CIO Detective Crivello has not only committed his career to protecting the people of his home city but also amassed more than 21 medals or commendations serving his country. Commenting on the I.U.P.A’s Veteran’s Award, I.U.P.A. International President Sam A. Cabral said “The I.U.P.A. is honored to recognize the outstanding service of Detective Michael V. Crivello. His service to his city and his nation deserves the highest recognition.”
